Poet's Agreement with Nature and the Security of the World
Por: Haji Mohd Ali
World peace, agreement with nature, has indeed been ingrained in themes written by poets around the world because writers are very close to nature and very close to society. Even poets are very sensitive and sensitive about the turmoil of the world posed by man himself. All the experience and knowledge as well as the attitude of poetry allows the poet not only to record events but even to delve into the problems. This is the privilege of the poet who sees life and nature through the pen eye of the deepest and most subtle senses. The poet sees that ‘peace’ can mean peace between the world, man, country, friends, family, and inner peace. Any meaning of peace voiced by the poets is found in the words and images in their poems.
Awareness of the importance of the natural environment in human life has long been written in literary works by poets. They always reminded the importance of brotherhood with the world around and stressed the need for human beings to establish a harmonious relationship with nature. Friendship with nature and the poet's concern for his environment have placed nature and the environment as a source of inspiration for most poets. Nature plays a huge role as a symbol and metaphor in the poets' poems in protesting the injustice of life and the destruction of the world due to war. Even nature is also used by poets as a symbol of the voice of peace and tranquility for human life.
The poet was not born out of an art academy but rather out of a very beautiful intimacy between the poet and nature. The whole meaning in the poem is born from the physical universe full of implicit messages in which the poet invites the reader to contemplate everything that happens around him with mind and consciousness as a human being who values nature and life and world peace.
Maya Angelou, in her poem titled “The Rock Cries Out to Us Today” which uses images of nature to describe human life against longevity, has these lines clearly condemning war and calling for peace, in a “rock” voice that already exists since the beginning of time:
... Each of you a bordered country,
Delicate and strangely made proud,
Yet thrusting perpetually under siege.
Your armed struggles for profit
Have left collars of waste upon
My shore, currents of debris upon my breast.
Yet, today I call you to my riverside,
If you will study war no more.
Come, clad in peace and I will sing the songs
The Creator gave to me when I
And the tree and stone were one....
The poet is a responsive human being who will not escape from what is seen and heard while witnessing the situation around him especially nature whether nature has created peace or destruction as a result of human behavior itself. Yet poets will still record it in writing because poetry is also a historical witness that perhaps the next ten years will be important for generations and the history of human life.
