In July Reminiscence

Dying day by day,
Even when still alive, breathing,
sleeping, and in motion,
Even when squirming to do one thing or another.

Getting up every morning,
The blood dries a little bit,
Like the dying river
revealing its pebbly bed,
Likely to forget the body’s flowing blood.

Dying day by day
Where did I drop my soul’s wings
Startled,
Even once upon a time reptiles had wings

Time is running,
Running away
Together with this damp moldy air
As its accomplice.

Dying gradually day by day.

23 November 2005.
Translated by Chau Dien and Michelle Noullet.
